There's a benefit to being back on the East Coast this time of year. Stipers are running and word is the False Albacore are in thick. I've made it out in the newly acquired Marylou a few times to no avail but last weekend that all changed.

On Prescription: Trout

Throughout my lifetime I've heard that "laughter cures everything." This is a universal saying, and to many, a universal truth. I have come to find, however, that there are certain things laughter cannot cure. That is to say sixty percent of the time it works every time, but what about the other forty percent. What about the pain that comes from being weighted down in urbania? What about the need to get your hands wet in a high mountain stream, and maybe your feet wet too? What about the need for the peace, the adrenaline, the silence, the screaming reel, the lost catch and the one that didn't get away? What about the longing for space, the camaraderie, the aloneness, the trout you catch and give back and the salmon bleed and kill to smoke and eat? For all those ailments in life that laughter cannot fix, that other forty percent that requires certain attention, my prescription is trout.
